Welcome to the

Heritage Huis Museum

About Us

In 1990, a group of dedicated Hollandale residents formed the Heritage Huis Museum to preserve local history and educate the community. People joined the first membership group and began donating artifacts to begin a collection.  The beginnings of a catalog recorded those early gifts.

The city of Hollandale contributed the building in which the museum is still located.  A distinctive windmill next to the front door reminds people of the town’s links to its Dutch settlers.

Through the years, the museum’s collection of objects has grown.  A group of faithful volunteers work to showcase the history that those objects represent. From earliest times, the area has been connected to indigenous people, to explorers, to settlers, and finally to railroad and drainage history.  The museum artifacts and stories bring this history to life.

The museum accepts and treasures objects that illustrate this ongoing life.  Preserving these glimpses into the past helps visitors understand the present.  Eager volunteers show and tell Hollandale’s story by interweaving research and memories of farm and town into life in today’s world.
